Breaking patterns
The worry about the increasing polarisation I see in the world was the starting point for this photography project. The society is hardening, resulting in groups with different viewpoints positioning themselves against each other instead of exchanging ideas and opitions or looking for cohesion. By nature, I'm always looking for compromises and avoiding conflict. I try to combine viewpoints, look for the benefits of commonality and try to strenghten the combination.
I also have a great love for patterns, rhythms and repeating lines in photos: rows of poles, shadows, wrinkles in the sand, etc. Repetitions fascinate me and give me peace, order and stability.
That is why I started experimenting with all kinds of paper folding techniques and investigating how folding a photo with patterns strengthens the structures of the original image or not and see how the 2D and 3D worlds can be combined. By combining the 'flat' photo and the folded photo, I create a new image with 3D effect, looking to strengthen the original image without loosing the beay of both worlds. A wonderful experiment to break the original patterns and look for stability in a powerful combination.
