Teenagers struggle with searching for their own identity. Each adolescent is unique individually, but they also strive to blend into a group of friends. In order not to be excluded from the group, they adjust their own behaviour. On the other hand, they are looking for their own identity uniqueness. This process creates tension.
The photography project “Unique and equal” visualizes the tension between being unique as an individual and wanting to be like-minded in a group. It examines to what extent an “average adolescent” represents the group of girlfriends and to what extent everyone retains their own identity.
